1) Introduction
Welcome to My Milestone (“Milestone”, “we”, “us”, “our”). Milestone is a private, invitation-only platform used by educational and professional institutions to manage documents, tasks, groups, approvals, comments, and activity logs. By accessing or using Milestone, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”).
2) Eligibility & Access
- Access is provided by participating institutions; there are no public sign-ups.
- You must be authorized by your institution and comply with its policies.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and any devices used to access Milestone.
3) Google Sign-In & Drive (Required)
Milestone requires Google Sign-In and a Google Drive connection during onboarding to enable secure file access and collaboration. We request the minimum OAuth scopes needed for authentication, file selection (via Google Picker), inline viewing (Docs/Sheets/Slides), and optional import to your institution library.
We comply with Google’s API Services User Data Policy (Limited Use). Google data is used only to provide the features you request, not sold or used for advertising, and not read by humans except for security, compliance, or support you request.
4) Your Content & Intellectual Property
- You/your institution retain ownership of the content you upload, import, or create in Milestone.
- You grant us a limited license to process and display that content solely to operate Milestone.
- Do not upload content you do not have rights to use.
5) Institutional Data, Roles & Permissions
- Admins manage roles (e.g., Admin/Editor/Viewer), workspace settings, and user access.
- Content visibility follows institutional permissions; respect confidentiality and access boundaries.
- Activity logs and notifications may be recorded for transparency and audits.
6) Files & Storage
- Local uploads: Files you upload are stored in your institution’s Milestone workspace.
- Drive files: You can browse/select via Google Picker. Content is fetched when opened and is imported only when you choose to import.
- Admins can set retention rules consistent with the institution’s policies and applicable law.
7) Acceptable Use
- No unlawful content, harassment, malware, or infringement.
- No attempts to disrupt, probe, or circumvent security or access controls.
- No reselling, sublicensing, or reverse engineering of Milestone.
8) Security & Privacy
- Transport security via HTTPS/TLS; at-rest encryption for stored data (e.g., AES-256).
- Least-privilege access, token protection, logging, and periodic reviews.
- See the Privacy Policy for details on data handling, retention, and deletion.
9) Third-Party Services
We rely on reputable infrastructure (e.g., hosting, email) to operate the service. These providers process data only to deliver Milestone’s functionality and are not permitted to use Google Drive content for their own purposes.
10) Availability & Changes
- We strive for reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
- We may improve, modify, or discontinue features with or without notice.
11) Disclaimers
Milestone is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties (merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement).
12) Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Milestone will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data loss, or service interruption, even if advised of the possibility. Our aggregate liability will not exceed amounts paid (if any) for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim.
13) Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Milestone from claims arising from your misuse of the service or violation of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our willful misconduct or gross negligence.
14) Termination & Suspension
- You may stop using Milestone at any time; institutional admins can deactivate access.
- We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, security risks, legal requests, or non-compliance with institutional policy.
15) Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by applicable law of the administering jurisdiction of your institution (unless the parties agree otherwise). Disputes will be addressed first in good faith between the parties. Where required, venue and jurisdiction will follow the institution’s governing agreements.
16) Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect improvements, legal requirements, or policy changes. Updates will be posted here with an updated “Last updated” date.
